Screw caps only
The village of Rochefort-sur-Loire, 20km from Angers, is home to Domaine des Baumard, maker of Logis de la Giraudière. Florent Baumard, a discreet epicurean by nature, cares for 40ha of vines on both banks of the River Loire. The man displays the exacting standards and technical insight passed on by his father – and a natural charm that’s reflected in his straightforward, flattering wines. They are all fitted with screw caps, an option wholeheartedly embraced by the producer: convinced of its quality, he has been investing in this type of closure for several years. “We are the only Loire producers to use screw caps – the most eco-friendly, effective method for protecting wine – across our entire output,
” says Baumard. “But we use them primarily on grounds of quality. The aromas, freshness and fruit of the wines are conserved, and they can age naturally, remaining faithful to their own qualities.
